Vasectomy is one of the safest and most effective methods of permanent birth control. The surgery works by blocking the tubes that connect the male's sperm to the semen, effectively stopping the sperm from reaching the egg. It is one of the most effective methods of birth control (99.8% success rate in one study) and does not affect any of the male's hormones.
Dr.Kim uses the Non-Scalpel Vasectomy (NSV) method, a method that has the benefits of less bleeding and fewer complications. Non-scalpel vasectomy is a technique that uses a small clamp with pointed ends. Instead of using a scalpel to cut the skin, the clamp is poked through the skin of the scrotum and then opened. The procedure itself takes 30 to 40 minutes, and almost all of our patients have reported the procedure to be almost painless. And many patients find that they can resume their typical lifestyle routines within a week with minimal discomfort. Your scrotum will be numb for 1 to 2 hours after a vasectomy. Dr.Kim recommends to apply cold packs to the area and lie on your back as much as possible for the rest of the day. You can resume sexual intercourse as soon as you are comfortable, usually in 1 week.
